Part 09 · Estimating

Markup and waste factors

Waste lives in the build-up, per line or overridden per item. Markup lives in the Resource Viewer's Markup tab, for the whole estimate, a section or one item.

Steps

  1. Select an item. In the Data Sheet the Waste % column shows what each material line inherited from its resource; double-click to change one line for this job.
  2. Item waste % in the Data Sheet header overrides every material line under the item. It never compounds. Clear it to hand the lines their own figure back; 0 is a real zero.
  3. Click the Markup chip in the totals bar. The grid has a row for the Whole estimate, then each section, then its items. The most specific figure wins.
  4. Open the Margin tier select on a row: Specialist 32%, Competitive 26%, Floor 21%, a Custom margin %, or Markup % on cost. Margin tiers price sell = cost ÷ (1 − margin). Markup % adds that percent of net as profit.
  5. Type Risk %, OH % and Bond % straight into the row. Typing into a section or item creates an override; the X beside the badge puts it back to inheriting.
  6. Details & fixed adders opens the full panel: fixed-dollar risk adders that print as their own line, and the waterfall from net cost to total sell.
