A template is a recipe: the resources one unit of a system consumes, each in its own quantity. This chapter builds two and shows how they are used.

Steps
Under the database in the left column click Templates. The right column now shows your Resources, ready to pick.
Add groups as before, then Add template: a Name, a Code and the Unit — what one of it covers (SF, LF, EA).
Select the template row. The Data Sheet under the grid lists its lines. Search a resource on the right and double-click it (or select it and click Add to template) to add a line.
Set each line's Qty per unit: how much of that resource one unit of the template uses. Rate and Line Total fill in, and the template's Total column adds them up.
Reorder lines with the arrows in the Data Sheet header; Delete line removes one. System tags help you find templates; a Long description prints on client documents.
Why templates matter
A takeoff quantity is enough to price a job because the quantity meets a template, and the template knows what it takes. Build them once, reuse them on every estimate.
